5 Truths Every Woman Over 40 Should Know About Fat Loss & Building Muscle

Hi, I’m Rosa.
After more than 20 years helping women over 40, I’ve learned that lasting results don’t come from doing more. They come from focusing on what actually matters.
Before you start another diet or workout plan, here are five truths I hope you’ll remember.
You don’t have to choose between losing fat and building muscle.
Many women over 40 can do both with the right combination of strength training, enough protein, and a realistic nutrition plan. A moderate deficit, around 15% below maintenance, is usually enough. Cutting more than that tends to backfire, costing you muscle and energy instead of protecting them.
Strength training is your foundation.
You don’t need to work out every day. Three well-planned strength workouts each week are enough to build strength and support fat loss, as long as you train with intention and use progressive overload, gradually increasing weight, reps, or sets over time so your muscles keep adapting.
Protein changes everything.
Protein helps preserve muscle, supports fat loss, improves recovery, and keeps you feeling full. Aim for roughly 0.7–0.9 grams per pound of body weight. For most women, that lands somewhere between 110–140 grams a day.
Walking counts.
Daily walks are one of the simplest and most effective habits for improving your health and supporting fat loss. Aim for 7,000–10,000 steps a day, roughly 60–90 minutes of walking, broken up however works for your schedule.
Consistency beats perfection, when you know what to focus on.
The women who get lasting results aren’t perfect. They keep showing up. Perfection isn’t needed, but clarity is. Without it, showing up consistently just means repeating the wrong things.
